Chief Environmental and Financial Economist

Jim Whitestone is a renowned Chief Environmental Leader at Woodridge Solutions, where he spearheads sustainable finance initiatives, focusing on climate action, circular economy, and sustainable agriculture and resource management. Previously, Jim was the Assistant Deputy Minister for the Climate Change and Environmental Policy Division at the Ontario Ministry of the Environment and Climate Change. His leadership there spanned various critical areas, including climate change, Great Lakes, source-water protection, zero-waste, circular economy, toxics reduction, renewable fuels, indigenous relations, and inter-governmental affairs.

A distinguished academic, Jim lectures on climate change for Osgoode Hall Law School's Professional LLM in Energy and Infrastructure Law program. He lends his expertise to the University of Toronto as well, teaching environmental policy within the School of the Environment and climate change policy through the Munk School of Global Affairs and Public Policy.

Jim has recently served as an expert panel member reviewing Canada's national carbon pricing system for the Canadian Institute for Climate Choices. He also contributes to the Institute for International Finance-supported Taskforce on scaling voluntary carbon markets as a consultative group member, while leading the Climate Chain Coalition's Canadian division. His role extends to influential advisory positions, including serving on an expert panel for the Canadian Institute for Climate Choices, reviewing Canada’s carbon pricing system.
